Obituary for James Dale Rhymes
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of James Dale Rhymes, affectionately known to family and friends as "Papaw" or "Jim." James, a beloved son, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, was born on February 23, 1951, in Kermit, Texas. He left this world peacefully on August 13, 2025, at the age of 74, in his hometown of Kermit, Texas.
Jim dedicated much of his life to his work as a long-haul truck driver, a profession that reflected his sturdy character and commitment to providing for his family. He was a simple man who cherished the beauty of life's little moments. He found joy in fishing, relished watching classic western movies, and loved the tranquility of sitting outside, sharing stories with those he loved.
Above all, Papaw took great pride in his family. He is survived by his loving daughters, Melissa Sonnier of Kermit, TX. and Jill Gomez and husband Eli of Hobbs, NM. He leaves behind an entire legacy of grandchildren: Zach, Nate, Lexie, Preston, Myla, and Audri, along with his cherished great-grandchild, Zayne.
James' warmth and kindness made a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. His storytelling and gentle spirit created countless precious memories for his family. He will be profoundly missed not only by them but by all whose lives he touched.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Jamie and Louise Rhymes, sisters, Ann Rhymes, and Sue Mitchell, and granddaughter, Alyssa Pennington.
As we celebrate the life of James Dale Rhymes "Papaw, let us carry forward his legacy of love, simplicity, and the joy of family. May he rest in peace, forever remembered in our hearts.
