It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gerald Lynn Chapman, affectionately known as "Sonny" in his youth and "Jr." throughout his working years. Gerald left this world peacefully on October 14, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on June 25, 1937, in Lubbock, Texas, Gerald built a life rich in friendship, kindness, and outdoor adventures. He called Kermit, Texas, his home, where he enjoyed the simple pleasures of life-hunting, fishing, and camping.
Gerald was known for his hard work and friendly demeanor. He never met a stranger and welcomed everyone with open arms. His greatest joy came from his family, especially his beloved grandchildren, who lovingly referred to him as "Pa."
Gerald was a long-standing member of the Kermit Masonic Lodge, where he fostered meaningful connections and shared his commitment to community service. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth, perseverance, and love that will be cherished by all who knew him.
Gerald is survived by his daughters, Diana Hethcoat of Sweetwater, TX., and Tina Milwee of Odessa, TX., the mother of his children, Jeanette Chapman of Kermit, TX., his grandchildren, Miranda Milwee, Stephanie Norred and husband Jacob Rodriguez, Christine Heady and husband Ricky, Cody Hethcoat and wife Dianne, and Tracy Walker, his great grandchildren, Kambri Hethcoat, Aaron Norred and wife Amanda, Lindsey Norred, Tatum Heady, and Hunter Heady, and one great great granddaughter, Dolly Norred
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Zada "Drum" Chapman, and brother, Durwood Chapman.
Gerald Lynn Chapman's spirit will forever guide and inspire us. May he be remembered for the light he brought into the lives of others.
