Freda Dodd

July 28, 1936 — October 16, 2025

Freda Edith Dodd, lovingly known as Nana Freda, embarked on her final journey on October 16, 2025, in Crane, Texas. Born on July 28, 1936, in Cheltenham, England, she was a spirit that embraced life with open arms and an infectious enthusiasm. After moving to Wink, Texas, in 1981, she became an integral part of the community, nurturing a boundless love for her surroundings and the people within it.

Freda's heart was that of a homemaker, a role she fulfilled with unparalleled passion. She had a magical way of making her home a sanctuary of love and warmth, where good food and laughter thrived. Her culinary prowess was legendary, particularly her shepherd's pie and banana bread. She often proclaimed, "If you leave this table hungry, that's your fault," a testament to her generous spirit and undeniable hospitality. Her kitchen was not merely a place for meals; it was a gathering spot where friends and family felt cherished and nourished.

To many of the children in Wink, she was more than just Nana; she was their confidante, a caregiver, and a guiding light. Known for her candid nature and unwavering approach to life, Freda never hesitated to share her thoughts. She was a proud member of the First United Methodist Church of Wink, jumping at the chance to lend a helping hand with community events, always arriving with bells on, ready to contribute with her effervescent energy.

Freda's love for her town was palpable; she was a spirited Wink Wildcat to the core. She was known as "the keeper of the park", every day, she walked the park and relished the simple joys of life. She loved to share her passion for tea-making with anyone eager to learn her treasured craft-the art of brewing the perfect cup of tea.

Freda is survived by her sons, Michael Dodd and wife Rosemary of Wink, TX, and Bud Dodd and wife Cammy of Ft. Worth, TX; daughters, Lisa Dodd and husband Dennis Glenn of Orla, TX, and Terry Miller and husband Brad of Amarillo, TX; her cherished brother, John Smith of Cheltenham, England; along with 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren who will carry her legacy forward.

She is preceded in death by her devoted husband, Douglas Don Dodd, who she married on April 8, 1961, in Cheltenham. Together, they shared 25 beautiful years until his passing in September 1986. She now also joins her beloved parents, Phillip and Edith Smith, as well as her brother, Roy Smith, and sister, Sylvia Robles.
