With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Elva Jewell Marcum, who left this world on April 28, 2026, at the age of 92. Born on December 16, 1933, in Worth County, Missouri, Jewell was known for her unwavering faith, her love for family, and her warm, nurturing spirit that touched everyone she met.
Jewell dedicated her life to being a homemaker, a role she cherished deeply. She would often say that her greatest joy and aspiration in life was leading her children and grandchildren to Christ, embodying the values that she held dear. As a long-time member of the Odessa Bible Church, she lived her faith unapologetically and inspired those around her to do the same.
A marvelous cook, Jewell had a special talent for creating delicious meals from scratch, filling her home with delightful aromas that invited family and friends to gather. Her passion for nature shone through her love of camping and collecting rocks from her travels - no matter the size or shape, if she loved it, she'd bring it home.
Jewell shared a beautiful life with her husband, James, whom she married on February 18, 1956, in Wichita, KS., from that day forward, she was his "Jewell" and he her "Jim." Their partnership was filled with love, laughter, and countless adventures, including bow hunting and dancing the night away.
Jewell's kindness extended beyond her family; she devoted her time to volunteering at the senior center and Meals on Wheels, spreading joy wherever she went. She delighted in participating in the plays at the senior center, showcasing her spirit and creativity.
In her passing, Jewell leaves behind her cherished children, Brad Marcum and wife Linda of Parker, CO., Scotty Marcum and wife Charla of Monahans, TX., Robin Stevens and husband Billy of Kermit, TX., and Bryan Marcum and wife Jessica of Plano, TX., her sisters, Betty Smith of Allendale, MO., Madelyn Brooks of Raytown, MO., Marelyn Maudlin and husband Danny of Burlington, IA., and Rhonda Moore of Kansas City, MO., Her legacy lives on through 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and one more great-grandchild on the way.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Weldon W. and Dale "Thrasher" Brown; her husband, James "Jim" Marcum; her son, Jeffery Lynn Marcum; her grandsons James Banks Marcum and Jason Avary; her brother Don Brown; and her sisters Evelyn Groom and Jean Rhinehart.
Elva Jewell Marcum will be remembered as an amazing mother, grandmother, and friend, a true gem in our lives. May her spirit continue to shine, reminding us of the love and kindness she spread so effortlessly.
A celebration of her life will take at 11:00AM, Friday, May 15, 2026, at Kermit Funeral Home, with Pastor Larry Jasso officiating. Arrangements are under the personal care of Kermit Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Condolences to the family can be made at www.kermitfuneralhome.com
