Emblem

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald Clyde "Don" Creager, who left us peacefully on December 31, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on April 15, 1935, in Crosbyton, Texas, Don dedicated his life to serving others, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and commitment.

After graduating from Pecos High School class of 1953, Don took to the skies joining the United States Air Force in 1954, proudly serving as an Aircraft Mechanic until his honorable discharge in 1962. His military service provided him with opportunities to travel to Europe, Africa, and Germany, experiences he cherished throughout his life.

His love for community service blossomed when he began his political career in 1962 when he was elected to the commissioners court of Loving County, Texas, a role he held until 1973, when he was appointed as the county judge. Judge Creager went on to become the longest-serving county judge in the state of Texas. Over the course of his remarkable 33-year tenure as county judge, he earned the trust and support of his constituents, who repeatedly returned him to office. Judge Creager's leadership saw significant advancements for Loving County, including advocating for the restoration of the historic courthouse in Mentone during the late 1970s and mastering the successful effort to assure that all township residents had access to piped water.

In addition to his role as county judge, he contributed to regional planning through his 18 years on the Permian Basin Regional Planning Commission, culminating in his service as chairman in 1998. His commitments extended to the Board of Directors for the Texas Association of Regional Councils and to the Board of Trustees for the West Texas Centers for MHMR in Big Springs, Texas, where he served with pride for eight years. His community spirit extended beyond governance; he was also a dedicated member of the American Legion and VFW.

Don also enjoyed a long and successful career in the oil and gas industry. He partnered for many years with his father Earl and they were both well known in the area for their dedication and integrity.

Don was not just a public servant; his warmth and spirit resonated with all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was a loving man, always making time for family despite his many commitments, and his ability to connect with others left an indelible mark on the hearts of those around him. His kindness and generosity touched many lives, as he was known for donating to various charities and helping those in need. He also enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, watching football games featuring his favorite teams, Texas Tech and the Dallas Cowboys, and sharing fishing trips to Mexico with his close friends and brothers.

He is survived by his daughter, Brittany Creager, and her husband Joseph Carney of Gulf Shores, AL.; nephews, Carl Creager and husband Ken Hope of Las Cruces, NM., Kelly Don Creager and wife Becky of Kermit, TX., and Devin Creager of Oklahoma; along with his nieces, Laura Ann Giles and husband Gerry of Hideaway, TX., Connie K.
