Betty Evelyn Thorp went home to be with her Heavenly Father on February 24, 2026. Betty was born in Alamogordo, NM, on December 4, 1938, and her vibrant spirit touched everyone she met throughout her 87 years.

Known for her outgoing nature and generous heart, Betty never met a stranger. Her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ defined her life, even in the face of incredible hardships. As her oldest son, would say, "This side of Jesus, Mom is the main reason my family will be in Heaven!"

Betty married, Carl (Bud) Thorp Jr., on May 20, 1955. Together, they chased drilling rigs across West Texas, southeastern New Mexico, and Wyoming, before settling in Pecos, TX, in 1968. There, she became an active member of the Fourth and Bois D'Arc Church of Christ, where she not only taught Bible classes but also served the community with love and dedication. In 2011, she moved to Midland, TX, where she continued to serve and uplift those around her. Betty formed a special bond with her dear friend Martha Svanda at Fairmont Park Church of Christ, along with the Nest ladies' group, whose love and support for one another mirrored the very essence of the Body of Christ.

Betty's warmth and spirit will be profoundly missed by her family, including her son's, Carl "Smokie" Thorp and wife Lori of Midland, TX, and Lane Thorp and wife Rebecca of El Paso, TX, her daughter, Sandy Thorp of Hobbs, NM, son-in-law, Richard Jones of Mentone, TX, brother, RH Smith of Tyler, TX, sister Charolotte Smith of Coahoma, TX, 10 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, RW and Kathrine E. (Tanner) Smith, daughter, Elizabeth Kay Jones, and sisters, Clara Smith, Bonnie Sue Smith, and Glenda Franke.

In this time of loss, let us remember the joy, kindness, and steadfast faith that Betty brought into our lives. May her legacy continue to inspire us all to live with love and compassion.

A funeral service to celebrate Betty's life will be held on February 27, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Fairmont Park Church of Christ in Midland, TX., with Mike Crowley and Brandon Jones officiating. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at 2:30PM at the Coahoma Cemetery in Coahoma, TX. Arrangements are under the personal care of Kermit Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
