Benjamin Martinez
Lopez
June 1, 1950 – March 23, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Benjamin Martinez Lopez, affectionately known as Benny, who left us peacefully on March 23, 2026, at the age of 75. Born on June 1, 1950, in Marfa, Texas, Benny lived a life rich with love and adventure. A devoted husband, father, and friend, he proudly called Kermit, Texas his home for many years.
Benny was a proud veteran of the United States Army, and a true outdoorsman at heart, finding joy in fishing and hunting. Known for his creativity and craftsmanship, he turned wood into beautiful pieces through his woodworking skills. Sports were his passion, particularly as a diehard Denver Broncos fan. His love for the game extended to coaching youth sports in Kermit, where he positively impacted many young athletes' lives.
In addition to his zest for life, Benny had a sweet tooth that couldn't be satisfied unless it was with the cookies his wife, Belinda, would bake for him. Family was everything to Benny. He created lifelong memories with his son, Jeff, as they collected baseball cards and coins together, and he lovingly supported his daughter, Kristen, through every endeavor. He carried a special fondness for the simple pleasures in life, enjoying weekly meals at Jerry's Cafe and taking leisurely rides on his beloved trike. His faith was a guiding light, and he was an active member of St. Joseph/St. Thomas Catholic Church, where he found community and his kindness and support extended to many.
Benny will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Belinda Lopez of Kermit, TX, son Jeff Lopez and wife Stephanie of Houston, TX, daughter Kristen Ramirez and husband Chris of Ft. Worth, TX, step sons, Bobby Naranjo and wife Becky of Midland, TX., Joseph Narajo and partner Evan of Paris, France, and Marcus Naranjo and wife Ruby of San Angelo, TX, step daughters, Lisa Nixon and husband Michael of Bay City, TX, and Lori Salizar and husband Oscar of Monahans, TX, brother Harold Lopez and wife Shelly of Wink, TX, sisters Barbara Munoz of San Antonio, TX, Melinda White and husband Joe of Odessa, TX, and Brenda Denton and husband Mark of Odessa, TX, along with 6 grandchildren Britney, Matthew, Carly, Caleb, Madeline and Mia, and great grandson Luka.
He is preceded in death by his parents Joe "Sonny" and Esther Lopez.
